A new innovation is born

The next generation of composite sails is here!

Elvstrøm Sails XYLO, based on spread filament technology and Technora® fibres, is our latest sail technology. A technology which breaks new ground in terms of sail shape, stability and durability.

Combining Technora fibres with the use of a spread filament layout is our way to create lightweight sails that set a new standard.

Our XYLO product features in two versions.

XYLO Core is made with the keen racer in mind. Core is based on filaments only - creating the destinct racing profile whilst reducing the weight of the construction.

Core is available in the segments Zonda and Koonaa Race.

The existing XYLO product aimed at high performance cruising has also seen a revision. This is named the XYLO Force, and will feature a taffeta for maximal durability.

Force is available in the segments Solano and Koonaa Cruise.

Need we say that we of course design and build both conventional as well as in-mast furling sails with both XYLO Core and XYLO Force sails.

360° Stability

Whereas XYLO Core and XYLO Force represent equivalent weights to their direct counterparts, EPEX Film-Film and EPEX Double Taffeta, respectively, they mark a big step forward in terms of design, fibre layout, shape and stability.

The principle of XYLO is what we've named 360° Stability - a layout which ensures a stable load distribution in all direction.

The broad filament layout enables us to design and create a sail with full 360° coverage of fibers, and thanks to the wide filaments used, it also eliminates fiber-free gaps in the structure. This makes for a greater shape retention and structural integrity.

Structure

Creating the structure and combining fibres and adhesives to the final XYLO product is a unique process.

Using crosslinking thermoset adhesives, the fibre filaments are combined in a crosslinking structure.

This unique molecular structure ensures the final sail has a very high tensile strength and stays flexible - but without compromise to the structural integrity of the material.

The two different versions of XYLO represent our two highest scoring products on the performance/durability chart. Where the XYLO Core for racing provides the most in terms of shape stability, Force comes with an additional taffeta for longer durability.

Full Circle

With XYLO, Elvstrøm Sails has gone full circle in terms of sail technologies as our programme now offers all four, main sail technologies.

From the basis with woven polyester sailcloths and laminates – and to our membrane technology EPEX, which is now followed by composite sails in the shape of XYLO.

With XYLO, Elvstrøm Sails has made a new evolution of our sailmaking technologies, combining new technology, materials and adhesives with the principles of vacuum and lamination as first seen in our EPEX patented technology.

XYLO Core is ready for springtime deliveries 2026.

A new innovation is born – be the first to set sails with XYLO.
