Choosing your new sail

Choosing a new sail or even an entire sail wardrobe very often comes down to a priority of performance, durability, and price. When talking performance, the essence is the shape stability of the sail, whereas the durability refers to the longevity of the sail.

Performance, durability, and price

Below are some popular sail- and material combinations in our MAESTRO segment. Performance, durability, and price indicators are illustrated for each material combination on a scale from 1-10, 10 being the highest. Use the performance, durability, and price parameters as indicators only, and to compare various material to one another.

Grand Surprise 'Team Filius 3'

We are usually doing ORC Clubracing on the Lake Constance in our Grand Surprise. In 2022, we opted for a new set of sails and ended up with a Film/Film Technora EPEX mainsail and jib. Combining performance and durability was a very important factor for us when buying the sails, and we worked closely with our designer to optimize everything for the ORC. It worked, as we immediately won the ORC Lake Constance Championship after fitting the sails to ‘Team Filius 3’.
