Choosing a new sail or even an entire sail wardrobe very often comes down to a priority of performance, durability, and price. When talking performance, the essence is the shape stability of the sail, whereas the durability refers to the longevity of the sail.
Below are some popular sail- and material combinations in our MARIN segment. Performance, durability, and price indicators are illustrated for each material combination on a scale from 1-10, 10 being the highest. Use the performance, durability, and price parameters as indicators only, and to compare various popular material choices such as laminates and EPEX to one another.
I am using Marin from Elvstrøm Sails on my X-Yachts 4-3, and I am really happy with our set. We use our boat in a good mix of cruising and the weekly Wednesday evening race in the club. The sails are very stable, and I have the feeling that they are a little more alive, than what we used to sail with. Having sails that are more live needs a little more care for the trimming, but this is only an advantage in my view. I am glad we found such a good compromise with Elvstrøm Sails.
