Eight years ago Silke Löffler-Andrews from Eckernförde, Germany bought CARISSIMA, a SWAN-38, built in 1976. „The yacht is a beauty, it was love at first sight“, Silke tells.
But first at all there was a lot of refit work to do. „One of our first investments was a new Mailsail and a Jib. We decided to get a Hydranet Radial Main and a Hydranet Jib and we have been really satisfied. “Elvstrøm Sails was a good decision because from the first counselling till after sales and service everything went perfect”, Silke explains.
In 2015 the owners ordered a new Genoa-2. The old one was built in 1980, so the performance of course started to wear off. Again the fabric is Hydranet.
„The effect on water is amazing. Less heeling, better speed and more power,“ Silke says whilst smiling about the good results „The boat goes faster and has a much better acceleration.“
For light winds Elvstrøm Sails also built a Code-0 out of CZ-fabric. Due to the classic lines of the Sparkman & Stephens design, the owners did not want to add a genaker boom to their yacht. „For close reach we fix the sail with hanks at the forestay like a very big genoa. For downwind the luff is flying free. The effect on the boat speed is amazing.”
When asked “Why did you choose Elvstrøm Sails?” the answer is:
“We are happy with the individual guidance throughout the entire process. They are sailors, they are experienced and they know what yachtsmen need.”
The production of the new sails was photographed by Klaus Andrews who wanted to document the entire process - being a passionate photographer and sailor.
