The nominees for the sport section of Der Deutsche Nachhaltigkeitspreis - the German Sustainability Award for 2024 have just been named, and one of the contenders for the award this year is a German startup which sails under power from Elvstrøm Sails.
One of the contenders for the sustainability award is KHULULA, which is a German startup based around production of ecologically friendly Optimist dinghies. The Eco_Optimist is sourced and produced from renewable raw materials as well as recycled materials.
The Eco_Optimist dinghy is used in the Eco_Team Race Germany series - a sailing series for children. The series aims at giving the young sailors a good base to sail on, whilst making everyone able to compete and thus make their own contribution to greater sustainability. The events are held with the support of seven German sailing clubs and organizers, and chances are you may have seen the Eco_Optimists in action at the Travemünder Woche or at the stand the project had at Boot in Düsseldorf earlier this year.
The nomination for the Eco_Optimist programme is not the only nomination for Team KHULULA as they are also nominated with another project in a different category. This is a project named PLANETICS which is the first platform for exclusively sustainable sporting goods. This has landed them a nomination in the Transformation Map-category.
Eco_Optimist sees a strong demand for 2024, so the planning is already on - and before that, the award will be decided on November 23 and 24. We at Elvstrøm Sails want to wish Team KHULULA - also known as Simon and Holger - all the best for the award show!
