A special mention to Elvstrøm Sails at the European Yacht of the Year 2022 on our eXRP EKKO cruising laminate.
The European Yacht of the Year Award is initiated by the German leading magazine YACHT and first presented at boot Düsseldorf 2014. Today 12 of the leading yacht magazines from all over Europe make up the jury, the most important, influential, and most widely communicated boatbuilding prize worldwide.
The process up to the final nomination is quite unique. Editors and test experts come together four times every year to nominate the candidates and put all the boats through their paces in joint sea trials for several days in a row – an unparalleled exposure which is making sure that only tried and tested models can claim the much sought-after trophy.
“At Elvstrøm Sails we always follow the nomination and prize-giving ceremony closely. Being highlighted this year ourselves is a thrill! We have worked hard to pursue a greener agenda, and launching sails made from recycled materials has been one of our strategic goals within our entire approach to sustainability, that we label EKKO,” marketing manager Lise-Lotte M Larsen explains.
“The first test we made were very persuasive. The material is used for trioptimal layouts and in our testing, it proved to be very form stable with no real optical difference to other laminates made from virgin material. When we were invited to test the material in La Rochelle on one of the nominated Yachts we were thrilled and happy to be able to do the test on the Dufour 470, that was nominated in the Family Class.”
Thanks to the jury for this great recognition and chance to showcase a greener option to the world.
