Fully equipped for cruising and then finishing on the podium of a regatta are not necessarily two facts that go hand in hand. But for Global Market Developer from X-Yachts, Torben Kornum, they do…
For this year’s Silverrudder, he had originally planned to race his own X4.3, but he didn’t have the time to bring it to Svendborg for the event. A cunning Plan B emerged as he then launched the plan to race the Elvstrøm Sails-powered demonstrator X-Yachts XC47. There was a catch, though. The XC47 was fully equipped for just about anything else than a quick lap around Funen – including having full tanks and all the gear for a nice cruise rather than being light and ready for racing.
The idea did however land the way it should, and Kornum soon found his way to the starting line – and had a great opener to the race.
Eventually, he finished 3rd in the category for XL keelboats.
- What a race! I had a good feeling before the start. I have been sailing this XC47 to and from a number of boatshows this summer, and if anything, these +1.000 nautical miles I have done singlehanded this year has shown me that the XC47 is both capable and really, really quick, Kornum says and adds:
- What I like the most is the handling. Everything is easy and safe to handle, and yet it will always pack a punch. Same goes for the Elvstrøm Sails – I like the shape they hold, and above all they are so easy to trim and adjust, which is always an important part of fast, singlehanded sailing. And what a race this was – I would like to thank everyone involved in this amazing event!
