The Elvstrøm Sails Configurator is is your way to gather inspiration on sail types and materials for your mainsail, headsail or downwind sails and code sails. This is also where you find our Spi Design feature, where you can pick colours on spinnakers.

How to configure your sail

Before you can start selecting sail types and materials, there are a few steps you need to go through:

1. Choose monohull or multihull

2. Choose which sail category

3. Enter rig/sail information

 - Main sails: choose between conventional mast, furling boom, furling mast

 - Head sails: choose between non-furling or furling

 - Code Sails: choose with cable or cable-free

 - Downwind/Spi: choose between flying (conventional, symmetric and asymmetric spinnakers) or flying furling

4. Choose sail type
Now you are ready to start choosing sail types from the category that is relevant to you. You will find a number of sail types.
In each category you will find more sailtypes.

5. Apply layout
Before selecting sail cloth styles you have to apply the layout you would like to see.

- Crosscut sails are typically woven materials.

- Radial sails are typically laminates.

- EPEX are our membrane combinations.

- In downwind sails radial are also used for e.g. nylon.

The configurator runs on the full line-up and portfolio of Elvstrøm Sails - and even though a sail is a tailor made, this makes it much easier to view and consider different options, sailcloths, sail materials and sail layouts. Just to mention a few aspects of it.

From here, you can input specific requirements, select materials, and adjust additional features like battens, reefing points, and reinforcements, ensuring the sail matches your performance expectations.

The visual model adjusts in real-time based on the inputs provided, giving sailors a clear picture of how the sail will look on the boat.

Sail material selection

Elvstrøm Sails offers a variety of high-performance sailcloth materials, including Dacron, laminate sails and more advanced constructions in the form of membrane sails, EPEX and XYLO. 

Each sail material offers different characteristics, from durability and UV resistance to the lightweight properties and stretch of the sail.

Having this knowledge is the foundation of matching the sail type and sail design to the customers personal sailing style and preferences.
